Nitsa (Kaliner) Kasir, the Vice Chair of the Haredi Institute for Public Affairs, spoke at The Israeli Economic Association Conference which took place on June 14, 2018. The speech, entitled “Choice or no choice; what impacts the amount of working hours of Haredi women?” was based on a joint study conducted by Kasir together with colleagues at the Haredi Institute for Public Affairs: Dr. Shlomit Shahino-Kesler and Assaf Tsachor-Shai. The study is slated to be published in the upcoming journal of Tel Aviv University “Law, Society and Culture”.
In her speech, Kasir described the unique cultural characteristics of haredi society and presented data analysis of the working hours of haredi women vs. non-haredi women. An empirical study was presented, illustrating the key factors impacting the number of working hours of Haredi women. At the end of her speech, Kasir proposed several appropriate policy changes.
