A paper published by Nitsa (Kaliner) Kasir and Assaf Tsachor-Shai of the Haredi Institute for Public Affairs “Unionized Workers, Haredim, and Everything in Between” shows that the proportion of unionized workers in haredi society is very low relative to the general population. At the same time, the proportion of haredi women who reported violations of their rights and employers’ lack of compliance with labor laws is very high in proportion to all population groups.

Workers’ rights in the haredi sector is an important issue on the public agenda, both within the haredi community and outside of it.

The conference, held at the Van Leer Institute, dealt with the issue of adapting workers’ unions to employees from the haredi sector and what can be done to reduce the rate of rights violation among haredi women.
